Internet sales have grown. Last Christmas over £7.66bn was spent on buying over the net; up 54% on 2005. Approximately 3.9 percent of visits to British online retailers' sites yield purchases (Story and Pfanner, 2006).
It is therefore not surprising that the online advertising market is booming; breaking the £2bn barrier in 2006. this is a huge increase from 2004, where the online advertising take reached £653.3m, a 60% rise on the previous year's £407.8m figure.
